Les Moules Marinières is a canyon located on the eastern balcony of the Vercors massif near the Trièves. A little further from Grenoble than the other canyons, 45 minutes driving, it takes 1hour 45 minutes from Lyon and 1 hour 30 minutes from Valence. This driving time is longer than for other courses.
Its atypical name is curious because you won’t find any crustacean there. This pun comes from the mixture with the name of the village of Morinaire, where the appointment is set, and water streams often called “Oules".
Les Moules Marinières, is a 4930 ft long canyon, with multiple features, where one meets any style of obstacle, perfect for a discovery of the activity. After the gear set up at the meeting point, a shuttle car takes us to the start of the canyon. To start we have a 15 minute approach walk in the forest, which allows us to walk in the stream.
The first part, located in a continuous and calm narrow-sides gully, alternates walking and small fun slides. We discover the first 33 ft high abseil that we do with a rope to get to two magnificent slides, highlighted by an unforgettable light. At the exit we take a 10 minutes forest return walk along the stream, to enjoy a watching time along. We reach the second part of the canyon, great section much more technical.
The second part begins with a journey through passages underneath boulders in small caves. The narrow-sides gully is very tight, the light is scarce, the rays of the sun hardly penetrate, the narrow canyon is so typical.
Once again, the canyon gets opens near the exit in a chaos of rocky blocks where the walk is demanding and two last surprises await you for an amazing finish: A new 25 ft high easy jump, the depth is variable according the years, makes you dive in a basin that leads you to the bottom of the largest slide of Isère. It’s a sensational 35 ft high slide. Great ending!
A memory pic, then 5 minutes return walk to be back at your car at the meeting parking lot.
This canyon is only possible from early June to late September.
